Bring Me Sunshine Week 15

We made it! Christmas is done for another year but we’re in that weird in between stage where we’re not sure if we’re coming or going. Its one of the only times I have no idea what the date is, where I need to be or who I need to see and to be honest I absolutely love it. I don’t need to get a meal for anyone, everyone is on their own schedule and its just perfect. We also made it because we’ve almost completed 15 weeks of these bright & cheery sunflower blocks.

This week is the final week of the sew along and we’re making some half sunflower blocks.

Start off by making the following half pieced sunflowers

Next take two background pieces and sew together to make a background block.

Applique the sunflower blocks to their background blocks ensuring the bottom shapes are unfolded and lined up with the bottom of the blocks.

Now take 6 sunflower blocks and sew them together to make a column.

Make 3 Rows

Take 5 sunflower blocks and 2 half sunflower blocks together to make the second column.

Make 2 Rows

Take all of the columns and sew together as shown below.

Finally make the border. To do this measure across to the 2 4 1/2″strips and sew to the top and bottom. Take the 6 border pieces and sew them end to end.

Measure through the middle of the quilt. Cut 2 border pieces this length.

Sew one to the top and bottom of the quilt.

Sew the borders to the two remaining sides of the quilt.  Press each side.

Finish your quilt.
