It’s a Classic Kinda Day: Utah
Hi everyone!
The Classics block we will be making this week is Utah.
To make Utah you will need the following templates.
The template kits for all my Classics are available through Sue Daley stockists and can be bought directly through Patchwork With Busyfingers. This block should measure 12½” when pieced together (12″ finished).
Many of these blocks can be machine or hand-pieced, depending on your preferences and what you feel most comfortable with. I personally prefer to hand-piece these blocks.
Following the hand piecing instructions take the 4-B pieces and sew to piece A as shown in the diagram.
Finger press the seams.
Note: Sew the pieces around the centre A piece with one continuous thread.
Sew 4 sets of C and CR together.
Sew these sets to the centre working your way around the centre using one continuous piece of thread.
Make 4.
Finger press the seams.
Sew the D pieces around the outside of the block with one continuous thread.
Finger Press.
Sew the E pieces to the outside of the block.
Press carefully with the iron making sure your seams lay flat. The block should now measure 12½” square and should look like this once complete.
These Classics blocks look amazing in all different fabrics! You can change up the look so easily just by experimenting with fabric placement. I created a quilt using the Utah block and my Linen and Lawn fabric.
I also made a few alternative designs using fabric from different ranges.
Try experimenting with your fabric placement to create completely different looks. Here are some alternative placement options you could try.
If you’ve got any blocks in progress, or complete, I’d love to see them! Remember to use the #suedaleyclassics hashtag when posting on social media.
